Are reacted with 15mL of 3.005 M NaOH, 1.86 kj of heat are released. What is the molarity of the HCl solution?

The heat of neutralization between a strong acid and a strong alkali = -55.8 kJ/mol
This means that when 1 mole of H₂O is produced, heat given off = 55.8 kJ

When 1.86 kJ of heat is given off :
No. of moles of HCl reacted
= No. of moles of H₂O formed
= (1.86 kJ) / (55.8 kJ/mol)
= 1/30 mol

Molarity of HCl
= (1/30 mol) / (14.05/1000 L)
= 2.37 M (to 3 sig. fig.)

Enthalpy of neutralization of a strong acid with a strong base is -55.8 kJ/mole.
The value was obtained from the website:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enthalpy_of_neutralization

1.86 kilojoules x 1 mole / 55.8 kilojoules = 0.0333 moles

Molarity of HCl acid = 0.0333 moles/ 14.05 mL x 1000 mL/liter = 2.37 Molar
