1200kg car is traveling 55 miles per hour but runs out of gas at the bottom of a hill. nothing else is taken into account. what is the height of the highest hill it can get over?
I still cannot believe my professor did not give any examples of these problems.

Take g = 9.8 m/s²

55 miles/h = (55 × 1609 m) / (3600 s) = 55 × 1609 / 3600 m/s

K.E. at bottom of the hill = P.E. gained at the highest point
(1/2) m v² = m g h
h = (1/2) v² / g = (1/2) × (55 × 1609 / 3600)² / 9.8 m = 31 m

Maximum height = 31 m
