Boyfriend didn't text me saying he got there safe?

My boyfriend has to sleep over, an hour and 15 mins away at his cousins house, and he leaves our place at 7:30 so it's dark while he's driving and he usually makes it there at 8:30-ish. He also has bad headlights and his truck tends to slide easily. He would always at least say goodnight while he's at his cousins, which was fine with me. I'm the type to over think, and he knows this. He eventually messaged me back at 9:30am saying that he's alive. It made me feel really upset and it kept me up most of the night thinking of his well being.

Was there a specific understanding in place for that trip that both of you were clear on that stated, he will text when he gets there?
The leaves at 7:30 and it takes 1:15, that puts him there under the best conditions at 8:45, say hi, settle in, take a piss or get something to drink and 9:30 really isn't all that bad, Don't know why you would be really upset.
My wife travels around the wold for work, multiple trips a year, she is to call/text when she gets settled in her hotel so i know everything is OK. Been doing this for year. This week she is going on a cruise with one of her childhood friends, first she is meeting some family and staying in a hotel for a night a two before the cruise leaves. You would think that once she got there and got settled she would call, but no, she waits two days and calls me while waiting for the ship to leave.
People forget, do strange things at times, it's life, get used to it.
