i opened google chrome but im actually in chromium?

what is it and whats it for?

i went to whatbrowser.org and it said chrome 51 (latest) despite telling me this wasn't the latest 1 second ago on the actually browser, then i went to the real one and went to whatbrowser.org and it said chrome 55 (latest version)

i wouldn't even mind it but it auto starts and yahoo is the default browser (no offence Y!A)

Agreeing with Roderick. Do check "Help" | "About". Current versions of both Chrome and (Open Source) Chromium are 55.x. (I checked both my Win 7 and Linux versions this morning for a trouble report.)

I'm a little surprised that you would have Chromium on a Windows 10 machine.

Are you on Linux (or Android)? Chromium is basically the same thing as the Chrome browser, except open-sourced for Linux. Try the Help -> About menu selection. What does it say (including version)?
