Firstly, 120/11 cannot possibly equal 1.09 because
120/12 = 10
and
120/10 = 12
therefore, 10 < 120/11 < 12.
Secondly, 10.99 is NOT the correct answer, either.
120/11 is the non-terminating decimal 10.909090...
Rounding it to two decimal places gives 10.91, not 10.99
Method 1 :
120 ÷ 11
= (110 + 10) ÷ 11
= (110 ÷ 11) + (10 ÷ 11)
= 10 + (10/11)
= 10 + 0.9090…..
= 10.9090….
Method 2 :
Refer to the following division.
120 ÷ 11
= 10 + (10/11)
= 10 + 0.9090…..
= 10.9090….
Yes, 10 can be divided by 11 and the result is 0 with a remainder of 10. Write down the 0, and the decimal point, then "bring down" the next digit to make 10 into 100. 100/11 = 9 with a remainder of 1, so write down 9 after the decimal point.
If you continue (correctly) you'll see the answer is NOT 10.99, but rather 10.909090...
120/11 is indeed 10.9
You have got your decimal placement wrong... Try/check once again.
