I don't know if I have had steak tartare at a restaurant. But our mom used to get ground sirloin from a butcher shop and we loved raw beef with sweet onions on rye bread. I'll sometimes sample some raw venison while cutting up a deer. That reminds me, I need to move some beef tenderloins from the freezer to the refrigerator to thaw. I like my steak medium rare, just enough to warm up the center.

I have had steak tartare many times in my country of France. I absolutely love it. Yes I would recommend it, but many people are turned off by raw meat.

LOVE steak tartar!

MANY years ago, I even knew some taverns that served "CANNIBLE SANDWICHES" -- raw hamburgers on toast.
This is still one of my favorites!

I thought it was so-so and not something I would bother to try again.

Tried it...it's definitely an acquired taste. Thought I would like it...not so much.

I did, however, have some thinly-sliced kobe beef raw with some soy sauce and wasabi on it...outstanding.

Steak tartar is great! Try it! The last time I had it I was given a small measure of Calvados (apple brandy) to sprinkle over it.

I don't have any problem with the raw meat part but it just doesn't taste like much. It's good, in it's way.

It's worth a try if you're curious.

I would not recommend it to anyone, because of the danger of contracting Kuru, which is similar to "mad cow" disease in animals. If the animal whose meat you are eating has this neurologic disease, it will be transmitted and there is no cure. Better to be curious than infected. Steak tartare isn't that good, anyway. You have to put so much spice in it, that the flavor isn't tasty.
