Displayport Connectors?

So I have a gtx 1080 which has display port 1.4 inputs. Will something like displayport 1.1 work with this? Or does it need to be specifically 1.4? I don't know if they are backwards compatible or not. My last graphics card was a gtx 760 so I didn't need to use DP connectors. Thank you in advance.

They're all backwards compatible with eachother.

It would be a decent to look at the cable to make sure it's compatible with the highest version of DP you need.

However, it's all going to run at the lowest speeds between the monitor and card. So if the monitor is DP 1.1 or 1.2 compatible, it will run at those speeds.

You really don't need to worry about which version of DP you're running unless you have a 2k/144hz monitor, or any 1080p monitor that's over 60hz. It's at these high resolutions when it becomes an issue.

yes, a monitor that has DP 1.1 will work. it just won't be as fast as one that supports 1.4
