In recrystallization, an important step is to evaporate the solvent by heat in order to obtain a concentrated (or even saturated) solution. If a high-boiling solvent is used, the solution should be heated to a high temperature, i.e. the high boiling point of the solvent.

There are two disadvantages for such a high temperature :
Firstly, the solute may be decomposed at such a high temperature.
Secondly, a great amount of energy is needed.
