For some context, I had my first OBGYN appointment last month. I got all the necessary exams done and even though it was very invasive/uncomfortable, I needed to go.
Today when I'm out eating with my parents, the subject of weddings comes up and I joke around about how I may or may not wear white at my wedding because of the sexist history of purity/virginity that comes with it(that I may wear champagne instead). My stepmother then makes a joke about how I can "thank my GYNO for taking my virginity".
I'm kind of appalled that she would make a joke like that/imply that and it really grossed me out. Idk how would you feel if your parent said something like that to you?
Is this a gross joke to make or not?

You just ignore them. I do not know which country you belongs to. In this country people just do not use common sense when they make such remarks although they may be educated.

I'd ignore her comment all together. And by the way, champagne is a beautiful color wedding dress, go for it.

To your step mother its not actually as funny ad it sounds. To us you are a virgin until you have had a penis in your vagina. To her if your hymen is broken , you are no longer a virgin
