Please pick up the box laid on the desk.
lay--laid--laid verb
laid=to put something in a position on the desk;
He laid the box down on the desk=adverb/preposition(don't say object+past participle)
set aside-----He laid aside the box on the desk;

1. Please pick up the box laid on the desk.
這裡的laid on the desk是限定性質的「修飾語」，修飾先行詞box。laid是動詞lay的「過去分詞」，使用及物動詞的過去分詞當修飾語時，有被動的意思：被放置。
Please pick up the box that was laid by somebody on the desk.（用形容詞子句來寫這句時可以是這樣的，laid是過去分詞）
Please pick up the box that I laid on the desk.（也可以這樣寫，這時laid是過去式動詞）

2. to have something done by somebody
I will have my laptop repaired (by someone).
這裡的have是「使役動詞」，受詞後面的那個過去分詞是「受詞補語」。使用及物動詞的過去分詞當受詞補語時，也有被動的意思。受詞是分詞在邏輯上的受詞，即: someone will repair my laptop。
I will have someone repair my laptop.（受詞補語用bare infinitive，表主動，受詞someone是不定詞repair在邏輯上的主詞）

分詞是動狀詞（verbal），是由動詞（verb）所衍生的詞類，可以當「修飾語」或「補語」用。所以我們要看句子的「整個結構」來判斷分詞的功能。不能只看object + past participle這一小部分，因為它有可能是「受詞」＋「修飾語」／「受詞補語」。我們要從「主要動詞」來判定受詞後面的過去分詞屬於什麼性質。
