He likes me I like him... but he is very shy and has never had a girlfriend.?

So me and my friend have finally admitted that we like each other. I am 20 he is 26. He was very taken aback because he's never had a girlfriend and has never really had girls interested in him. He's smart, funny and handsome and I really like him, so I was quite shocked by this- but he has very low self-esteem about himself.

He said it's going to take him time to get used to someone liking him and he's not good with the whole dating/relationship thing. I'm not just if he's ever had sex or not- neither have I, but I've been on dates and had little relationships but nothing very serious.

It doesn't bother me at all that he's never had a girlfriend- actually I like it, it's nice that he won't compare me to anyone! But I'm used to guys taking the lead and I don't want to overwhelm him. I don't want to rush him in to anything. We also live like 45 minute drive away so this could require a lot of effort!

Can someone please give some advice?

Advice:
1. make it easy for him. Smile, be chatty, be friendly, enjoy yourself in his company.
2. Say let's go see a movie or whatever, picnic, coffee
3. Talk about relationships. Ask him about what he's looking for. Compliment him. Treat him nice. Tell him what you're looking for. Teach him to do what you want and not do what you don't want. Be teachable yourself. He will be delighted.
4. You have the advantage. Just take it as far and as fast as you want.
