Can I apply for another job even though I have accepted another offer?

I went for an interview at a hospital about a month ago and have accepted the job, my start date is the end of this month, I have not received a conditional offer yet though as I've had to go through lots of different checks before being properly accepted, I have paid for a DBS check and it is still going through, however I have been having seconds thoughts about the job and am unsure whether I really want to work there. It's a long way to drive and I have just looked online and seen another similar job at a hospital half the distance from my house. I would like to apply but am worried about letting the other hospital down, what could they do? Could I still take my DBS certificate and use it for the other hospital instead? Do I have to work there now I have accepted the job?

You are not fully hired until you show the DBS check to the potential employer, and they have accepted it. If you apply elsewhere, and it is the same type of job, you can probably use the same DBS check, or you can pay a yearly fee for an update. If the first job was working with children, and the second is working with adults, it's a different kind of check.

Everything is employment at will meaning you can do what you want. The only issue is when applying for future jobs either at that facility or if the area you are in is small enough that places talk and you get black balled.

A good plan would be to phone new hospital and see what they say - you may be employed by the same Trust
