A descent vehicle landing on Mars has a vertical velocity toward the surface of Mars of 7.0 m/s. At the same time, it has a horizontal velocity of 2.0 m/s.
At what speed does the vehicle move along its descent path?

Since vertical and horizontal are perpendicular to each other, use the following equation to determine its speed.

Speed = √(Vertcal^2 + Horizontal^2 = √53
This is approximately 7.28 m/s.
