Package not being delivered because more fees need paid?
I mailed a broken iPhone from the USA to the U.K. For my mother in law to get fixed and use. I shipped it using USPS and paid $30 at the post office with a label I made online. I shipped it on the 20th of December and it was meant to take 6-10 business days. It sat in customs for 6 days which I'm not that happy about. Now the status is "Payment of charges - Item being held, addressee being notified". I have no idea how I'm meant to be notified. I am now in the U.K. And can't receive phone calls. I've checked my email but nothing. Anyone have experience with this?

Your mother in law is the addressee not you.
The U.K. has been shut down for days due to Xmas and the New Year.
Six days is not unreasonable. Why have you or your mother not paid the custom fees? As soon as you do, you will get the phone. Any delay was caused by you, not them. You have been notified. What more do you expect them to do?
So, "addressee" (your mum) will be notified by post. What's the question? Did you make the proper US export and UK import customs declarations that it was for repair and not as a gift? There shouldn't be any duties owed on repairs, if the phone originated in UK. They may keep it for up to three weeks, then send it back, if this isn't ironed out by then.
Odd that you wouldn't have simply taken it with you when you went, using the general exemptions for export and import of your personal goods in your baggage.
Six days is not a long time. Your mother in law would get the notice. Probably customs thinks this phone was bought... Best bet, tell them that you mailed it for yourself to avoid customs charges. In any case... go down to the local post and inquire.
