Why is it that some people make the suggestion that if you have no loved ones it's okay to treat that individual badly?

I don't know. If you are being treated badly, then stand up for yourself. If it's just someone saying that people with no loved ones should be treated badly, then depending on how involved you want to become in this you can either be civil and ask them why they say this or you can just let them talk. Either way, people should make an attempt to be at least civil to everyone.
