Asking for this girls number?

Im in hs and I barely got to talk to this girl in my class, the only time I can talk is a couple minutes before class starts. So I don't have time for conversation. How often does just asking for a girls number work if you are confident about it? Any personal experiences are appreciated.

Here's the trick don't ask for her number before class, ask for it during class, she will be caught of guard and then you got her.
