I cant choose the career I want because of money and stability issues, what do I do?

I used to be a Visual Merchandiser, I loved my job and looked forward to coming into work everyday at the store I was at. I loved being creative and organizing everything. I especially liked being left on my own to do my job and setting deadlines and goals for myself. I was praised for my work ethic and my ability to get the job done.

I transferred to another store but was fired as I didn't get along with my new boss and was handed a piece of paper telling me I am being let go.

This made me realize that this career is not a safe one. At any moment, you can be fired because its retail. I also realized that in retail, the raises you are "supposed" to get, never happen regardless if you do a good job or not.

I miss my old job but I have to think about my future, I am in my late 20's now. What is very similar to Visual Merchandising, but is more stable and earns more? I am so lost as to what to pick or go to school for. Any info is helpful. Im quite miserable doing a job now that I am not passionate about.

Get a job with one of the merchandising companies that go from store to store and set up stuff. Acosta is one of them in my area. Vendors in grocery stores need help. Keebler, Coca Cola, Nabisco, etc. Or get a job working with inventory somewhere.

NO job is secure! Even attending physicians have been laid off from hospitals as they cut staff.

There are no perfect jobs out there. Retail is very volatile but so are many other types of jobs.

Your old job gave you a degree of hands-on satisfaction and freedom that are hard to find in any other types of job. A sales job might be good if you are good at talking/listening to people. Your success is directly related to how well you do your job -- the more you sell, the better the pay, and the more successful you'll be.
