KPop Signed Items?

So I m a bit confused about this concept. When it is said that something is signed, such as they do on mwave, what does this really mean? Does the artist sign on a paper and they stamp their signature onto the different items? Or does an artist actually sit down and sign a bunch of that item?

To my understanding, they sit down and sign a bunch of whatever it is they're promoting.

In a radio or some korean television programme, sometimes when the kpop group artists join that programme, they would make some events, like letting people to call to the radio. And if the people was chosen and talk to the artist on the radio, they would get some gifts. And I think the signed items are these. It's not really a bunch because there are usually only about 10 gifts.
