Is being vegan starving yourself? How to deal with hypocrites?

Recently became vegan and my school doesn't offer many vegan friendly snacks/meals so I just buy fruit for lunch or don't eat at all and wait until I get home.

The other day this girl tells me I'm 'starving myself' and when my friend defends me, she goes, "well, she's always starved herself. Have you ever seen her eat?"

The thing is, I eat normally and this girl is the one who's been on a diet since 7th grade. And now everyday she tells me to stop being vegan as if she thinks telling me everyday that I'm wrong will make me stop. She even went to the extent of 'expressing her concern' (as she puts it) to the school councillor. How do I deal with hypocrites like this? Or am I wrong, is being vegan like starving yourself?

so your school doesn't serve ANY potatoes, vegetables, fruit juices, peanut butter? ONLY fruit? I agree, I think you are using being vegan to control what you eat. there is NOTHING stopping you from bringing peanut butter and jam sandwiches or veggie sandwiches for your lunch...or mixed nuts, or carrot and celery sicks with hummus or salsa for dipping?

You both need to mind your own business.

Well when you're eating only fruit or not eating at all, what are people supposed to think?

Find vegan food and bring it to school.

If you are still growing you should not be vegan. Human bodies do not get complete nutrition on a vegan diet.

Make sure that you take good food with you to school as you know you cannot rely on the school to provide it. You need to maintain a regular food intake for health and even more so as a vegan.

1. Being vegan is not the same as starving yourself, as long as you're eating enough food.

2. I don't have friends whom I hate. (I think the idea of having unfriendly friends is a lil weird) but if I MUST work with someone I don't like, then I stay away from them as much as I can and I'm a mature adult whenever i have to collaborate with them on something. People who say mean things to others like that are not worth your time. They're the ones who are starving (for attention) and have no other ways of getting it aside from being a jerk.

Being a vegan is not starving yourself. She most likely want to be vegan and do not have the self control to not eat meat. There will always be a critic of almost anything you do in life. Just ignore them and do your own thing. Counselors tell them you are a vegan and the cafe doesn't offer a variety. You can also bring your own lunch. She is not concerned just a **** starter.
