Is my pit bull a purebred?

So I got my pit bull sometime in late August and the breeders said he was a purebred pit bull, I also saw both the parents and they were both purebred pit bulls. But, since I've got him a few people have asked me what dog breed he is and when I say he's a purebred pit bull they get all surprised and tell me that he doesn't look like a purebred. So if anybody could give me their thoughts on this I would really appreciate it. I will add some photos of him down below. Thanks!! (Ps. Don't mind the picture of him laying in that tiny bed, I just a new dog and he was jealous so he went a laid in the her bed)

People are crazy, that dog looks just like a pit, markings and all. So many people have their pits ears cropped really short that people don't realize what a natural pit bull looks like.

There's no such pure bred called "pit bull" (unless you're from the UK). That name is thrown around loosely to a few different breeds (staffies, etc). If you didn't get registration papers for your dog, then I highly doubt it's pure bred and the breeder actually isn't allowed to say it's pure bred either if it isn't registered.

Theres no such thing as a "purebred pit bull". "Pit bull" is a generic blanket term for a bully type dog

LOL! How can ANY Pit Bull be "purebred" when there isn't a single legitimate registry that recognizes them as a breed?

Your dog is an ill bred bully breed MUTT just like all "Pit Bulls". Shame on you for supporting backyard breeders breeding mutts for money. I do hope you've gotten this dog neutered or will be getting him done ASAP?

He looks a LOT like our guy that we rescued last fall. We *THINK* he's a Pit/Boxer, or American Bulldog/Boxer.
His ears say Pit, his muzzle looks a bit long for a Pit.
I don't think he's purebred, and unless you SEE papers for his parents (and their parents), you'll never know for sure.

The term 'pit bull' is generic like 'hound' or 'spaniel'. It covers all the pit type mixed breed crosses plus applies to at least 5 different purebred breeds.

Unless you got registration papers from the owners, there's no proof he's a purebred.

nope pits are not a breed they are a dog type

I see no reason that dog is not a pure bred.

Their not a breed at all, they're a Type of dog. You got it from a typical BYB.

Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog. Formal breeds often considered in North America to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog is also sometimes included.
