Mouse advice?
So approximately three weeks ago I rescued two females and their litters of newborn babies. The babies are now three weeks old and with them being wild and more wild I have noticed after three days i have to change the cages. I do not mind it as I was aware they needed cleaning regularly but It has become hard with my going back to school. I use shredded paper so it has no odor control what so ever. Please help me with any advice you can give.
ALSO is there any way you can keep them from getting shredded paper in their water dish? I have them in a 10 gallon tank with a water bowl and the mice keep getting the paper into their water and the mom mice tends to poop in her food dish... Any advice on that will be greatly appreciated as well.

Well, you are going to need larger cages. At 4 weeks you will have to separate genders, or you are going to have more litters.
Perhaps if you can find a rather large size cages, you can have a feeding station like a shallow box where food and water is.
If you were intending to release the mice, at 3 weeks, the babies should be on solid foods and can fend for themselves, weaning is usually two weeks or about when their eyes open.
It sounds to me like you just have overcrowding, 10 gallon is not a big tank and perhaps suitable for 2 mice. They need more room and exercise room.
Pooping in the water will happen, that gets into cleaning after them. You should be well cleaning food and water dishes every 3 days.
Without knowing how many babies you have, hard to make a suggestion, but boys and girls will need to be separated at 4 weeks. Another down side is male mice almost have to live alone or they will start fighting.
Shredded paper works for bedding, you may have to change it every 4 days to weekly. the alternative is bedding from a pet store. A separate feeding area and nest area is the only way to keep bedding from their bowels.
Perhaps make cage maintenance an after school or early evening chore, it isn't a lot of work, keeping up supplies like bedding will be the brunt.
Another suggestion if you intend to keep wild mice for pets, is to have them examined by a vet for things like parasites. If release was your intent, they can be released now, weather permitting, but consider well away from your home.
