First of all, there is no such thing as real sweet and sour chicken. The whole idea is a western invention. The Chinese to not have a recipe for sweet and sour chicken. They offer it in their restaurants because non-Chinese expect it on the menu.

The only true sweet and sour dishes are sweet&sour pork and a recipe for fish that is similar, but not referred to as "sweet&sour". Real sweet&sour pork is nothing like what you typically get in westernized Chinese restaurants. The real thing is actually pork spareribs that's been cooked twice and the sauce is incredible - not a cheap sugary syrupy sauce.

There is no universal recipe for sweet and sour chicken. Just like there is no universal recipe for, well, anything, which is why certain restaurants make dishes better than other.

Yes, and it's kind of disgusting what with the breading and all. An old Betty Crocker cookbook I have has a recipe for sweet and sour pork. It does not call for breading the meat before frying it. It consists of green peppers and onions sauteed with the pork, and a sweet sour sauce made of pineapple preserves and barbecue sauce (equal portions). Actually, it's very tasty.

Yes but it was just sour no sweet i think it's because the chef at the restaurant knew I was the one that killed his dad so he purposely put extra hot sauce on my chicken. Joke's on him though because I poo into a bag so his hot sauce surprise didnt damage my asshole one bit.
