Our senior cat hasn't eaten in 3 days! HELP?!?

Our 16 year old cat hid up in our basement ceiling refusing to come out. In his 3rd day up there(today) it was difficult, but we were able to get him down.

Those 3 days he hadn't eaten or drank anything. He drank some water once we got him out, but still won't eat anything. It's late and our vet it closed right now but im worried. He's VERY weak but insists on hiding behind the couch. I left food next to him just in case. Is there anything else we should do for him overnight before calling tye vet tomorrow? It'll be 4 days without food by then. All advice is welcome!!

Those of you who informed me that this was probably my cat's way of saying goodbye, you were right. Our kitty had a heart murmur, kidney failure, and was severely dehydrated after we rescued him from the ceiling. We had to sadly put him to sleep per the vet's recommendation. Thank you for all the serious tips, I really appreciate it.

As Christine said, this is likely your cat's way of departing, and I'm sorry as it is tough to accept. I fear the day my boys pass. Unlike dogs or humans, senior cats usually seem perfectly fine until their last few days, when they suddenly isolate themselves and lose interest in eating/drinking or doing other normal activities. Do consult your vet once they open, in case it is in pain or there's something you can do to comfort it. Also discuss if putting it to sleep will be in her best interest :'(. But if you feel like it is indeed dying but not in pain, what she needs the most is that you respect her space to go peacefully. Consider that car rides to vets can be very stressful for cats. Btw, I'm glad to see that you care so much as to post multiple times, this just means you are really seeking advice to do the best for it, don't let anyone bash you for loving your pet, and at a difficult time at that. Rejoice in her 16yrs of love and companionship. Hope all goes well.

Ok, you've posted about this at least nine times. TAKE THE CAT TO THE FRIGGIN VET!

If you're clueless how to syringe feed the cat with a 29 cent oral food syringe, and can't get him to even eat warmed meat baby food off your fingers, get the cat in now. If you have to wait till tomorrow, DON'T call, be there on their doorstep when they open so you get in with an emergency visit. This isn't rocket science.

Your cat may be instinctively trying to fast. Leave it alone and let it do this. Provide it with food and water and let it eat if it wants but don't force it to or put IV's in it or anything.

Well i am going through the same thing,
One common thing that happens as cats get old is their kidney or liver stops working like they supposed to, and as a results they first eat and loose wight and then stop eating as well. Some times blending food and puring it into their mouth fixes the problem; however, in my case after the kidney started working normally, the bext day it shut down. Right now i have no choice but to say with her to the end.

Dont give up hope, I also had a successful story like this. In any case don't forget that its only possible up to a point, and just being there all these years was the greatest you could have done or they could have received.

Your 16-year old senior kitty is ready to depart. My cat turned 16 and 2 days later, when he stopped eating his beloved wet food, I knew it was time, so I took him to the vet to be euthanized. Even though the vet stood to profit by prolonging his life, she said I did the right thing by recognizing that he was ready to go, even if I wasn't ready. RIP, Kobe-kitty!

I would definitely take it to the vet.

But honestly, this is typical behavior at the end of a cat's life- they try to hide someplace so that you won't see them in pain or weak.
