Help switching from Windows 10 to Kali Linux?

2016-12-06 1:37 am
My laptop currently has Windows 10, and what I want to do is completely delete Windows 10, and install and use Kali Linux only. All I've done so far is I've downloaded Kali Linux and I wrote it on to my USB flash drive using Win32 Disk Imager. Now I'm stuck, and I don't know how to delete Windows 10, and how to permanently install Kali Linux. Please walk me through what to do from here, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Why kali linux? While it is still linux, but its main purpose is penetration testing. It's not much of a main desktop operating system.

If you are wanting to use linux as your primary daily operating system, id suggest something like Kbuntu (ubuntu with KDE) or ubuntu with the cinnamon DE (which basically is a more stable version of what linux mint is), or opensuse.

Others have already answered the question, make sure you set it up right on the usb (use something like UNetbootin or rufus to set it up properly), and then put the usb stick into pc and boot from the usb stick. It will boot into the linux live mode and then just select the option to install it.

dont throw away the windows. if you sell it on it will be worthless. anyway linux is so small it fits on a usb easily, more than one version.

Yep, like Konakona said.....Are you SURE about Kali Linux??....I think you are about to really mess up here.
Kali is definitely NOT for noobs, and its not an OS like windows, Mac, or most other Linux.
To prove a point....the fact that you do not know how to delete windows is cause for serious concern here. You are about to make a mistake by trying to install Kali.

Boot the USB drive and the Kali install will prompt you somewhere along the way to re-format the "entire disk".
In some cases, you have to change the BIOS to switch from boot UEFI to boot "Legacy" modes

Test your Kali USB drive if it boots. If it does, then proceed to install it. Somewhere during the start of the process, you will be asked where to install Kali. That's when you tell the installer to delete all existing partitions and make new ones (automatically if possible).
