Do I have a cat?
There is a cat that lives in my house and we feed it and give it water. We got it from the shelter in exchange for money. Occasionally, we take the cat to the vet. Does that mean we have a cat?

saying you have a cat is only the first part of a sentence.
you would normally say "I have a cat that I take care of", which is certainly true in your case.
the question becomes do you take responsibility for its actions? what happens when it knocks a pot of the neighbor's windowsill? do you pay for damages?
and what if it gets knocked up? would you take care of its kittens?
Yes, if you care for it and it is owned under your name, it is your pet cat.
Yes, that's what having a cat is.
You bought the cat from the shelter. It lives with you. You feed it. You take it to the vet. All of these things mean you have a cat.
You have a house, you live in it and pay mortgage for it, do you own a house? Duh.
Yes, if you bought the cat, you take it to the vet, you feed it, and it lives in your house, then yes you have a cat.
No - it means that the cat has YOU.
Of course you have a cat - what else do you imagine that would mean?
Yes, it does mean you have a cat. It isn't a dog I assume, or a hamster.
