Does how good an actor or actress is at acting have anything to do with whether or not they become famous?

No, not really.
There are hundreds of thousands of excellent actors who are unknown, either through chance or through choice.
There are also a great number of very famous actors who have very little talent - they just had very good connections or fame just happened.
Not at all. Anthony Sher is one of the best actors I've ever been privileged to see and most people wouldn't know who he was because he rarely works in TV and film. Until recently, neither did Mark Rylance, now really quite famous and rightly respected. How many people know of Burbage, yet he was the actor Shakespeare wrote all his best parts for. He must have at least been inspiring, if not truly brilliant.
No way. Look at Arnie. An entire career built on the fact he couldn't speak properly and took drugs to build up his body.
Fame and talent do not go hand in hand. Look at someone like Megan Fox who is one of the worst actresses on screen but she's famous.
Then you have amazing actors on Broadway or in independent films who are not household names even though they are incredible actors
It's the audience who decides whether or not the actor becomes famous. There are some famous actors who can't act but the audience likes them and then you have actors who are steadily employed in character parts and no one remembers their name. It's called charisma.
Not necessarily. Personal magnetism that grabs the audience's attention is more of a factor.
Mostly yes, partly no. There are some awful actors who are famous and some wonderful ones who are not but for the most part the good is recognized and the bad not.
Not always. Being good and being at the right place at the right time and knowing the right people is a big part of it.
