I might want to be an actress or director (tv)?

So lately I ve been wanting to be a director for tv shows, but I m not sure if it s something I really want or am just doing for fame or be friends with famous people. Fame is kinda shallow, right? So I just found a pdf of 13 the musical and I m fangirling over it and how much I wish I could be in it. I just love seeing plays so much! And it was really cool to be in one. I know I have to go through like 10 years of training but I m 15 so I guess I should start soon.

Anyways, my mom says I should have a law degree to back me up and it ll help me earn more money. So, does this sound like a childish dream or shallow, I really would like to direct though.

It sounds like this is just a nice little fantasy, and not a realistic plan.
Yes - wanting fame is very shallow, but fortunately only ever happens to a tiny percentage of actors and directors. Almost all of them live out their lives performing in or directing obscure productions which only a few hundred people will ever see.
They almost all have to work very long hours in an ordinary job, but it would have to be one which you could work self-employed, free-lance, so you could take a day, a week, a month or even more off work, with no notice at all, for the occasional, rare piece of paid acting or directing work.
Can I suggest a compromise? Join a community theatre. There are many really good ones - and you could start off just helping backstage and front of house, then try out for small roles, and if you get on okay, try for bigger and better ones. If you're good, they might let you do some directing as well.
You'd probably do just as much, if not more, acting and directing than professionals do, but you wouldn't have to do all the training and you could also work an ordinary job in the daytime.
I think it would be the best of both worlds for you.

Please go for your dreams. I work with a production company and that recently released an online acting course. It's different than most because they are teaching from a director and producer's perspective. The best advice I have is train. You are like an instrument. In order for the instrument to play the best, it must be in tune. You are like an athlete. You may have muscle memory, but the best players are the best, because they train and train and train. ps its fun to train anyways so why not lol

Please follow your dreams.

Thank you.

Grab your smart phone and start directing. It's that simple and you'll soon find out whether you like it or not. Trying to do it for fame isn't just shallow, it's stupid. The vast majority of actors and directors never achieve fame. Out of all the TV shows and films that come out, name the directors, and name anything more than 2 or 3 lead actors if you can. Yet, the TV shows and films you watch are all directed by someone and full of actors you barely recognize.

Second, a law degree isn't that great a fall back plan. Not if you don't go to a top law school and follow through on working at a large prominent law firm that works you 80 hours a week to pay you that big salary that will largely go to paying off your student loans.

You are 15 and we have Google. Do your research.

Both of those careers require a lot of skill and work to even have a chance at it. Do you actually know anything about acting or directing? They are very different paths. Yes, they can converge later on; actors often direct after they have been acting long enough to learn from watching. Star locally. Act in stuff. Direct stuff. You won't have famous people around you, and you are not going to get paid, but if you do it and are interested because you love doing it, then go for it. If it's just fame you seek, get real.
