Use potato flakes, not actual mashed potatoes.

You can use fresh mashed potatoes, but powdered potato flakes works better.

Instant mashed potato powder, yes if you sprinkle it in slowly as you stir, so it does'nt get too thick.

You can make a grilled cheese sandwich and use this for a dip too, or cut up into smaller pieces with a pizza cutter and add to the soup.
