Why do they put slashes in the middle of English contractions in Japanese song lyrics?

In lots of Japanese song lyrics I've read, when they use an English contraction like "I'm," "you're," etc, they put slashes in them like., "I\'m," "you\'re," etc. What do they do this?

They're not used to contractions. It identifies for them, that there are two words at play.

That appears to be "escaped" text from a unix- or linux-based computer, some type of javascript or a oddly configured web site.
The backslash stops the following quote being treated as a string delimiter.
eg.
