Does it get easier to cope with depression?

I've had depression for over 4 years. I take fluoxetine, I was on 20mg then got upped to 40mg. - they don't work at all and I have been taking them for over a year. I've tried other anti-depressants before this and they didn't work either. I couldn't even go to therapy even if I wanted to, my anxiety in public is so awful.

I just can't seem to help my self. I do go to college a few times a week but apart from that I stay inside the house. I so badly want to be able to do what other women my age are doing, I want to get a job, I want to take my driving lessons but I just can't.

I don't know what I wanted to achieve when posting this, I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance?.. :-(

It does get better. You do need to continue with therapy or else you won't be able to handle it on your own. You will need to learn coping mechanisms and also to have someone help you through your thoughts.

Also, it might take awhile to try different medications. My friend tried several before finding one that worked for him.

Hang in there. It really does get better. Not every day is perfect. And it's not just depression. Everyone has ups and downs!

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. You are suffering from a disorder that requires intensive treatment, and you deserve the best treatment for you. You can try online therapy but I definitely think you need something more intense, and if you can get over your anxiety to fo to college a couple times a week then you need to be able to push yourself to at least some one on one therapy. I would reccomend getting assessed and going from there but you definitely need to do something different. At least some baby steps

If you feel your medication isn't working, talk to your psychiatrist about weaning off of it. After it's out of your system, you can adjust accordingly. Whether that be trying new therapy or new medications.

And you'll get better. Not all at once, little by little. Plus, if it's any comfort, many peoples mental illnesses are the worst between ages 13-25. They tend to ease up once you're older than 25, since your body is freaking out over the new stress of hormones before that. People tend to not realize how much stress the change to adult hood puts on your body. Best of luck <3

Yes. I just want to reassure you. That is all.

If you take proper, adequate and regular treatment, you can easily do any wonders in your life.
