Can council make me get rid of dog if it's a private rented flat?

Stupid woman who owns flats next door asked if I'm allowed pets. I said I can have what the **** I want! She said what about them dogs barking up there? I said woof! And left. I'm not in a council flat so no one can make me get rid of them, right? They quiet down after a bit but it's only when I leave or there's someone at the door. My landlady is rarely around so it's unlikely they'll see her to report me. Most dogs bark when left alone they only bark for about 10-15 minutes then they settle down

The council have a department that deals with unreasonable noise. If they think that the noise your dog makes is unreasonable they can get an injunction to make you keep it quiet. If you don't comply with that, the Court will instruct the police to take your dog away.

Given the non-mature posting of this, I can see why they told you this.

Well there's nothing like defusing a situation to say 'Woof' to somebody who is complaining about noise, and walking off!! Not.

However, if you are renting privately, with WRITTEN permission to have dogs in there, and most would stipulate how many to be honest, then you should be okay. But if this neighbour took this further, which she might, and involves your landlord, you may find yourself in hot water if your dog(s) are making a nuisance of themselves. I have to question how you know that your dogs settle down if you are not there? If this becomes an ongoing nuisance, your landlord may change her mind about allowing you to have dogs in there which could mean you have to find alternative accommodation, and that property becoming out of bounds to anybody else with dogs, needing to rent. As landlords who will allow dogs in their properties are becoming fewer and fewer, that would be tragic as far as I'm concerned.

When you rent, you are not right in saying 'no one can make me get rid of them'. Again if your dog(s) are a nuisance, the landlord certainly can even if 'the Council' can't. And even if you own a property, if your dogs made lots of noise and disturbed neighbours in hearing distance, the Council could require you to control the noise your dogs make, and if you don't, ask you to get rid of them.

If its a noise nuisance or aggressive, or a banned breed, then yes they can.
If not then see a solicitor. If you cant afford one, google for your local Law Centre, or talk to Cooper and Co;

You could complain to the Council about her being a nuisance neighbour. But be careful about how you word your complaint, take some advice on that.

I have my three dogs crate trained, and I didn't have any real issues with it. Learn here http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?diU4

I didn't get them as very young puppies, and that makes a difference. young puppies are like young babies. They don't cry to manipulate, they cry to have their needs fulfilled. They need to potty every 2 to 3 hours at this young age, and crating them for long periods of time causes them physical discomfort. They don't like to potty where they sleep, so it creates the need for the dog to get out of the crate, or soil it, which will make him more reluctant to use it.

Make the crate a place where good things happen. My dogs get a small treat every time I crate them before I leave. They also get fed in their crates (I feed a raw diet, so it's less messy if they eat in their crates). They dive into their crates in anticipation of food. I also leave the crate doors open all the time so they can sleep in their even when I'm home if they choose. If you have a smaller sized crate, keep it close to your computer, or other busy areas of the house so the dog has an option to go there and rest when you are home. toys such as Kong's are great for the crate because you can stuff them and give the dog something to occupy him. I used to stuff mine with a mixture of peanut butter and frozen mixed veggies, then I'd freeze it before giving it to the dog. You could very easily do this when you are sitting at the computer, give him the Kong in the crate. Shut the door and let him enjoy it while you surf the web. (he may have to potty after he finishes it, so make sure you take him outside when he's done). I'd also remove the kong and take him out of the crate before he asks to come out.

If you keep it positive, don't make a fuss when you come home, or when you leave, and have patience, the crate can be a wonderful tool!
