GoPro would be a horrible choice due to the massive amount of wide-angle distortion created by the fisheye lens.

You don't mention anything about a budget. The digital cameras that are small & compact that have the best video performance are those from Sony and Panasonic.

If you want a point-and-shoot, then take a look at the Panasonic GX series and the Sony RX100 of which there are four or five versions.
