One variable plz. Math help.?

Ed is 13 years old.
His mother is 35.

in how many years will he be half as old as his mother.

in "n" years, he will be (13 + n) and his mother will be (35 + n).

So he will be half her age:

13 + n = (35 + n) / 2

Solve for n, starting with multiplying both sides by 2:

26 + 2n = 35 + n
n = 9

In 9 years, he will be half of his mother's age (he will be 22 when she is 44).

The difference between their two ages is 22, therefore when Ed is 22, his mother will be twice is age(44). Let x equal the number of years so:
13 + x = 22...
x = 22 - 13...
x = 9
Ed will be half as old as his mother in 9 years

Ed is 13 years old and his mother is 35.
In 9 years Ed will be half as old as his mother.
E + M = 13 + 35
2(E + x) = M + x
26 + 2x = 35 + x
x = 9
