Is it safe to travel by plane?

My family wants to go on a trip far away from where we live. But I'm afraid of flying, which is what they want to do! Should I be scared? Is it safe?

It's the safest way of travelling any distance. It's safer than car, bus or train and a huge amount safer than walking. You're more likely to die in the taxi to the airport than you are on the plane. More people die in airport departure lounges than they do on planes.

Unlike other means of transport, a plane has to go through a long string of safety checks for every flight before the passengers are allowed on board. That's why you spend so long at the departure gate wondering "Why won't they let us get on?" On the rare occasions that there is a plane crash, it makes the headlines all around the world. If they did that for every car crash, the daily papers would be two feet thick.

Are you terrified every time you get in a car?

Last year, less than 600 people died in airplane accidents - in the entire world. In the US alone, 35,000 people died last year in automobile accidents. Flying is one of the safest ways to travel.

There are signs that a plane is unsafe to fly on. A goat in the aisle, the seat next to you has a fighting cock in it, 50 kilo bags in the rear with white powder in them, Bullet holes in the plane. If you see such No it is not safe to fly on that plane.

You might die in a plane-crash. But you're far more likely to die in a car-crash on the way to the airport, or be mugged, raped and murdered once you arrive.

You can be scared if you want, but it won't change anything apart from making you miserable.

Yes. It's a lot safer than driving. I've flown over a couple of million miles and never had any problems at all.

It's far safer to fly than, for example, to travel by car.

There are 1 million people in the air at any be time, they get to their destinations safely! Actually getting to the airport by car will be the most dangerous part of your trip, but you probably won't worry about that!

You are more likely to die on the way to the airport than in the actual airplane itself. And if you live in south Chicago, you may as well just keel over now

I fly at least 6 times a year. Safer than driving.

Flying is the safest form of travel - a lot of time and effort goes into keeping planes safe - after all, what airline wants to be dubbed 'most crashed'?

The more we know about airliners the happier we are.

I fly with Thomas Cook these days and they have a very high safety record. Once onboard your airliner, read the safety leaflet which you'll find in front of you along with the booze and snacks lists etc.

You shouldn't be scared! I have been in a plane dozens of times. ., some with non-stop flights up to 12 hour, and I never had any problems. .
the odds of a plane crash are one for every 1.2 million flights, with odds of dying one in 11 million. Your chances of dyingin a car or traffic accident are one in 5,000. Astoundingly, even if you are aboard one of the one in 1.2 million flights that crash, 95.7 percent of passengers survive

Millions of people fly everyday. There are thousands and thousands of passenger planes that take off and land every day. There are pilots and flight attendants that fly everyday as part of there jobs. Do you really think that flying would be so popular if it was not safe? The fact of the matter is that flying in the plane is going to be the safest thing you do all day long.
