how come my younger friend is taller than me?

he is 13 yr old and in grade 9 and is 180 cm or 5'11 and he is still growing. i am 15 yr old boy and in grade 11 and 172 cm or 5'7 3/4". he said that his dad is 6'4 so he will grow more. its surprising because 2 yrs before he used to be shorter than me. even last year he was a bit shorter than me. suddenly he became taller. nowadays he towers over me and he is the tallest in his grade.

Genetics, simply. He is taller than you and other guys because he is genetically programmed to be very tall. And tall guys grow rapidly in early puberty - he will be a big guy since his dad is.
