They don't kill in the name of their religion as much anymore. Despite what the Bible says slavery is no longer permitted.

A living Church serves a living God. Neither remains static.
The 1600's were a more simple time, less technology and far more farmers. We can only see the 20th century in our rear view mirrors. A lot of people today were not born in the 20th century.
However, we did manage to stop burning one another for our differences in religion in the 20th century. The 1600's were not a good time for Christians in Europe. It was the Protestant Reformation and being on the wrong side between Protestants and Catholics would get you killed.

There were many more nations that needed to be conquered and converted in the 17th century. Once they reached the west coast of the US, it forgot it's history and origins and 20th century Christianity thinks it exists by and for white men of European origins. They have forgotten that the faith was formed in and for the middle east region of Asia. They have forgotten that when they started their spread to the west, the original Christians who terrorized Europe were much darker and looked much like their predecessors, the Muslims.

Christianity was used too segregate, deprive women from rights ect. Christianity was used for horrible things throughout history. That probably explains why Stalin was evil he abstracted horrible interpretation while studying to become a priest at a seminary. He abstracted those teachings made them his own. Of course through secular principles ultimately changed the way Christians view their gibberish.
