I ve always been afraid of bugs. However, in the past couple of years, it s been getting a lot worse (I m a teenager). Anymore, I usually scream, cry, and run away when I see a bug such as spider, centipede, cricket, and those big, scary-ish bugs. (I say scary-ish because they re not scary to most people, but they are to me.) I can t stand looking at bugs even on a screen. "Velvet ants" in particular scare me soo much, I CANNOT look at them on my computer screen. One time, I googled "velvet ants" in my living room, and I screamed and slammed my laptop shut and started crying. I m constantly itchy (especially at night), thinking I have some sort of bug on me or something. I recently realized I d gotten bug bites and I asked one of my cousins what kind it was, and he said "oh you just have chigger bites." Immediately burst into tears for 10 minutes, then continued to cry off and on for an hour or two about it. I avoid going outside as much as possible because of this fear. All bugs scare me including crickets, ants, ladybugs, grasshoppers, spiders, wasps, etc. I m thinking this is characterized by anxiety, but I have no idea. I want help, and I m seeing a counselor for my ODD, depression, etc. but do you think she could help me with my entomophobia ?? Or do you think I need to see a psychiatrist or specialist or somebody for it?? It s been taking over my life lately and I just really want help.Once I got finished writing that , a gnat landed on me. I m crying . help me please.

This does sound awful extreme, I can only suggest you seek some form of cognative behavioral therapy with a clinical psychologist that specializes in animal phobias.
With any desire to overcome this, it can be done but will take that effort on your part.
If you are already seeing a therapist, yes, your counselor could make a recommendation.
Any time any such fears have any impact on your daily living, you need to do something about it.
To me, it just seems sad people develop fears of natures little animals and this is just not necessary.
You will feel like a 6000 pound gorilla off your back in overcoming this,
I am one of those that grew up playing with the bugs and spiders, a good many are some of the most loved bugs there is, It makes my day when I can find a preying mantis to play with, a dragon fly landing on a finger, even getting a bumblebee to drink honey from my hand. You deal with this fear, it could be no different for you.
Please get the help you need, it is worth it.
I have actually seen some very pretty velvet ants, almost a shame they can have a painful sting, but then I attract wasps to eat bits of fruit from my hands. Never been stung doing that.

Yes, you are suffering from anxiety. I am the same way when it comes to worms.. I have vermophobia. It's very bad, you may be put on medication to calm down. Try breathing exercises, think of other things that calm you and make you happy, don't focus on something that makes you suffer, and having anxiety, it's easier said than done. That's good you will be seeing a counselor, please tell them all your concerns and how you are feeling that bugs terrify you and you have bad anxiety.

When we go on pilgrimage, we should pray to the main deity to give us knowledge, prosperity, health, wealth, etc. We should not seek help from the beggars sitting in front of the temple.

If you have any peculiar health problem like this, you should compulsorily consult a professionally qualified doctor and not depend on quacks. Take proper and regular treatment. I wish you good luck and god speed. You will be okay soon.
