I am doing computing at school and I would like to know more about the components and building a computer would help me to do this.

Where can I learn to do this?

Basic computer components
Motherboard - where all of the components are connected
PSU - Power Supply, where the power is distributed from
CPU, heat sink and fan - CPU processes all calculation for te PC, heat sink and fan keep this cool as it get hot quick
RAM - stores calculations made by the CPU
Hard drive - storage for operating system and files.
(optional) optical drive - for optical media such as CD's and DVD's
(optional) video card - if not integrated onto motherboard, you will need this to show an image on the display
(optional) network card - to connect to wifi or via ethernet (if not already integrated onto motherboard
PC Case - to house all of the components and hardwares

ensure they are all compatible. and the appropriate sizes
watch demonstrations or use your own initiative to put these together

building a computer is extremely easy. every component has a power connection, and a data connection. just remember to dissipate any static you may have picked up by touching an unpainted portion of the tower, (or using an antistatic wrist strap), and never force any component into place. most components require zif, or zero insertion force, and you could easily damage your components.

it is very easy what you can so is you can look on youtube and research what the specifications on specific components of it are

I have no idea what level :D equals so assume its school age.
If that's the case I would suggest that you might have a look at Arduino or RaspberryPi systems.
The same parts are in the build but power is all 5 volt or less.
Also, the cost is vastly reduced.

Well, to get by in Computer Science it'll help a lot to learn to use Google, you'll find great articles and much better explanations than what you'll get here.

Building a computer requires technical skills and knowledge, if you want to be successful. YOu can research and read on so many available "Do it yourself" guides, even youtube have a few. Mostly it depends on your budget, but the basic components are mother board, RAM sticks, hard drive, power supply and user interface components like keyboard and mouse. Other components like video cards and web cam can be add later; dont forget the the operating system (Windows/Linux). You need to put these all together and make them work - and must be compatible to each other. If you just want to learn you can buy a cheap used one on eBay and play with it (dismantle and put it back) - be careful and never get zapped ;) ( I meant electrocuted).

Building a computer is very easy to anyone who has just a bit of tech skills. Something thay may help is if you have an old computer that you don't use anymore. Take it apart and put it back together. If you don't you can ask the school's IT people for an old unused system. In my experence as an intern with a school. They have lots and lots of spare computers and parts. Depending on the size of the district, of course.

Just get all the components you need and put them together. The good thing is all connections are keyd and you cant put anything in the wrong place, as to cause any damage.

NO - computing at school will be spread sheets ,databases , word processing and graphic work

building a PC is very easy - you just buy the components and then put it in the right slot ( i have built a few )

YOUTUBE - will tell you how to build a PC in less than 10 minutes

There are lots of videos on youtube, that explain everything, however if you want, there are several classes online you can pay around 10$ for access, that help alot.
