MY Kitten will not listen to reason?

You get him things to occupy him during the day for starters. Get a sturdy piece of cat furniture with at least two levels and at least one sisal (rope) wrapped post. Put it in front of a sunny window. It will give him a place to exercise and play during the day and he will use it to scratch instead of your furniture. When you get home, play with him with a wand toy. Get him jumping and leaping. Do that for at least 15 minutes. Repeat before bed, and follow that up with a plate of canned food. Tired and with a full tummy, he should sleep. He is bored and lonely and is happy you are home. Appreciate that rather than focusing on being tired. That is all part of getting a kitten, and you need to focus on what he needs - and he needs playtime and companionship.

You need to play with him. He is a kittern - by definition, they are young, energetic balls of fluff. It's generally not wise to have a pet like a kitten if you're going to be out all day and this is one of many reasons why.

You have a normal cat. He requires that you adjust your expectations.
