Is it pointless and a waste of money having two flats, one in the UK and the other in the Netherlands?

I've lived in a small cottage which i love in the UK. It is very rural, quaint, and very nice for the price. However, I have just started a postgraduate programme in Holland and will not be living in the UK very often. To be honest, I still want to have some ties to good ol rural England but really want to settle in Holland. Is this a good idea or should I just give up the flat in the UK?

Why not rent out the cottage in the UK?
Then it'll still be there should you want to move back in later, and you'll get a revenue stream in the meantime
