If i am now paid by cash, when can i pay tax?

Total income will be less than 13k this year.
And it is not w-2 form so i didn't pay fica tax yet.
And this year is my first year that i start my self-employed job, so no record for previous years.

I know i can file it next year.
But it is confusing..so filing and paying tax, the difference.

So if i am paid by cash and didn't pay tax yet.
When can i pay tax???

Should i wait till i do with my spouse next year?

If you owed $0 in tax in 2015, you wait until you file to pay for 2016--because the IRS gives a pass on rising income.

Your $13000 will be a check of about $1665.

No. File a tax return for this year.

this is income to be claimed on Sch C and if the net amount on that form will be $13K, you will owe $1859 for self employment tax alone
you are already late prepaying at least three quarters but if you pay all of that in your Jan 1040ES voucher you can mitigate some of the penalty
you also will owe income tax, if you are single with no dependents that might be about $300 income tax-so somewhere in the range of $2200 will be what you need to send in that voucher in Jan, 2017

The filing deadline for your return is the same as for people with a W-2, April 17,2017. You'll file form 1040, with schedule C or C-EZ, and schedule SE.

You should be payiing quarterly estimated tax on the income this year. The deadline for this quarter is 1/15/17.

You file as self-employed.

You pay quarterly via form 1040ES
