Unless you have a very old vehicle, you can't. Points are no longer used. If you do have a 1949 Buick, take off the distributor cap, bump the starter until points are open, use a feeler gauge to see the gap, use your eyes to see any pitting, replace as needed, change the capacitor while you are at it.
