A gas has a volume of 4.00 L at 0 oC. What final temperature, in degrees Celsius, is needed to change the volume of the gas to each of the following, if amount and pressure do not change?
a. 1.50 L
b. 1200 mL
c. 10.0 L
d. 50.0 mL

V₁ = 4.00 L and T₁ = 273 K

For a fixed amount of gas under constant pressure :
V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂
T₂ = T₁ × (V₂/V₁)

(a)
When V₂ = 1.50 L
Final temperature, T₂ = 273 × (1.50/4.00) K = 102 K = -171°C

(b)
When V₂ = 1200 mL = 1.2 L
Final temperature, T₂ = 273 × (1.20/4.00) K = 82 K = -191°C

(c)
When V₂ = 10.0 L
Final temperature, T₂ = 273 × (10.0/4.00) K = 683 K = 410°C

(d)
When V₂ = 50.0 mL = 0.0500 L
Final temperature, T₂ = 273 × (0.0500/4.00) K = 3.4 K = -269.6°C
