So how do I figure payment for a vehicle that I've been driving for about two years now that's not mine?

Basically I've been driving this truck my boss has been meant to sell me for about two years now. He's always said he was going to sell it to me, but we just never talked about payment, kinda forgot about it. Now it's time for me to start paying on it, but here's the thing: It's an older model truck, at the time I got it, the Blue-Book value was around $1,300. I've paid for repairs on it, around $550 worth, plus I pay for gas, insurance and got the inspection and registration for the last two years. I think he had finally written up a bill of sale for about $500. So I guess do I pay or should I bring that up, he does know about it actually, but what is the way to go about this?

If I have to pay the $500 I'm going to. It's just $500. But well hey if I can save $500...

any help?

You sound like a scumbag.

If he sold it to you two years ago, you would have paid for all of it. You would have paid for the repairs. You would have paid for the registration and inspections. You certainly would have been paying for the gas. On top of that, you would have paid the 1300 for the vehicle.

Now he's offering it to you for 500? Pay him. That's more than fair. You're paying 800 less than you should have on the car. The other money you dumped into the car is irrelevant to anything here.

Sounds like your boss is treating you more like a son than an employee. He could have sold it to someone else 2 years ago for $1300. Instead he let you drive it for free for 2 years and then he is asking for $800 less than he could have asked for then.

No other auto seller would ever do that. The professionals would lease it to you for $100 a month for 2 years and then ask for the $500

You are right you can probably weasel out of paying him anything, But the honorable thing would to repay his generousity by giving him the $500 and something else to show your appreciation

If you had paid for it at Blue Book, two years ago, you would have still spent the $550 on repairs, and paid for gas, insurance and registration, right?

Check Blue Book value, today. My guess is that it's going to be worth more than $500.

I'm thinking that, at $500, you're still $800 ahead of where you would have been.

Like the other guy said, all the repairs and registration, and insurance don't matter in this.
Those are considered variable costs. Like would you charge him for gas or tolls or parking when you go out after work, no.
Sounds like a good deal, pay the $500, get a bill of sale and title and say...Thanks.
Then I would buy him a $50 gift card to a restaurant and say this is for letting me drive the truck.

He is being exceedingly fair. Pay whatever he says and thank him for it.
