Did my dog die from an Allergic reaction to Ivermectin?

My dog had been coughing so I took her to the vet.
She tested positive for Heartworms. They were going to treat her using Dioxcycline and Heartguard. They told us to give her the Heartguard the following day, which was Friday. We just paid $80 to have her checked out and we couldn't afford the Dioxcycline yet. I was gonna get it when I get paid Thursday. She was completely fine yesterday after the medication. Today I woke up to get ready for work and she was breathing so hard. I also noticed her foaming out the mouth. My mom took her back to the Vet. We borrowed money to take her back. They said she was extremely sick and they gave her a steroid shot. My mom kept an eye on her and about 1 today I got a call at work and she had passed. I'm so extremely confused. What caused her to die?

It was the heartworms that killed her. When they die, they release toxins. If the infestation is not too serious, the dog can deal with the toxins. But in a severe case, so many heartworms release so much toxin that the dog dies. Sorry for your loss.

As said, it was most likely the heartworms that caused her death. What I don't understand is why she was given Heartguard, a preventative treatment for this, if she tested positive. You have to kill the heartworms before using preventative treatment. So I'm confused too and very sorry for your loss.
