when will i know its ok to wear shoes after a broken ankle.?

i can finally bare weight its been 2 weeks now and i have a walking boot my doc said its ok to wear shoes when the pain subsides and the pain is gone but I still have swelling, a limp and it feels funny to walk without the boot but the pain is gone just wondering is it ok to wear shoes now
