Help please! In each of the three cases, which one is correct, A or B? Why?

1-A) Her dresses are costlier than those of her mother.
1-B) Her dresses are costlier than those of her mother’s.

2-A) My attitude is different from that of you.
2-B) My attitude is different from that of yours.

3-A) Because fish look through water, their eyes are different from a mammal’s.
3-B) Because fish look through water, their eyes are different from those of a mammal’s.

None of them is correct

1. Her dresses cost more than her mother's. Her dresses cost more than her mother's did. Her dresses cost more than those of her mother. They are all correct "those of her mother's" is always wrong. The apostrophe indicates the possessive but the preposition "of" does the same. You do not use both.

2. My attitude is different from yours. That's the best way to put it.

3. The meaning is incorrect. Many mammals have developed eyes that see clearly under water just as fish eyes do. Whales, seals, sealions, walruses, sea otters, and many other aquatic mammals see well under water. B is always wrong because of the double possessive. A would be better as " Because fish look through water, their eyes are different from a land mammal’s."

As it happens there are many different types of fish eyes and many different types of mammalian eyes. Eyes have evolved independently about forty times.
