1. At rest, the human heart beats once every second. At the strongest part of the beat, a person's blood pressure peaks at 120 mm/Hg. At the most relaxed part of the beat, a person's blood pressure drops to 80 mm/Hg. Supposing that t=0 corresponds to the relaxed part of the beat, produce an appropriate trigonometric function that captures this behaviour. Sketch the blood pressure over two heart beats.

If you make the (bad) assumption that pressure is approximately sinusoidal, you might model it as
.. p(t) = 100 - 20cos(2πt)

In fact, blood pressure has a steep rise, and a fall-off that depends on a number of physiological factors and disease states. A more complex model, yet still far from real, might be
.. p(t) = 100 + 120/(3+√4)*(sin(2π(t-1/8)) + sin(4π(t-1/8))/2 + sin(6π(t-1/8))/3)
as shown in the graph at the first source link.
