Take it from a retired Marine. Not only NO but heII NO! Hoppies #9 bore cleaner is what you want to clean the powder residue from the bore and chamber with. Gunslick for the rest of the metal parts.

WD40 is a Water Disperser, not a cleaner.

Hoppies #9 for barrel and bore cleaning, zero res brake cleaner spray for the direct gas impingement tube, break free on the AR bolt pressure seal washers. There are many pricey gun products not worth the money that will do no better.

Edit to add: I love break free CLP, I use it as my primary weapon lubricant on all my arsenal weapons. It's good stuff.
They issue it to our soldiers for their weapons for a reason, because it's got Teflon in it and it works great on all guns.

Dry slide also has Teflon in it, but who wastes their time to bake the gun parts in an oven when it's a tool that wears.

Wouldn't touch the stuff.
I also used Hoppes #9 for my pistol.

In my day, the Marines used Break Free CLP.

Buy the proper gun cleaning solvent and oil. WD40 is primarily fish oil, won't hurt but as an oil is not thick enough in my opinion.

Take it from a gunsmith, it works well.
