my 1988 toytoa corolla dx it dies out can it ne bad fuel filter or what can it be the carburetor needs fixed?

It could be either one of those problems plus about a dozen others. You will need to do some troubleshooting to narrow it down. The fuel filter is a fairly cheap shot in the dark though and probably needs to be changed anyhow. Give it a whirl.
